The short version

King of the Block is local-first. Your walks are stored on your device and backed up to your private iCloud. If you choose to sign in and add friends, your walk routes are synced to our server so your friends can see them. We collect nothing else, show no ads, and never sell data.

What the app processes

• Location (GPS) during walks. Used to draw your route and paint the streets you walk. Stored on your device and in your private iCloud (Apple CloudKit). Walk routes are only uploaded to our server if you sign in to use the social features.
• Apple Health workouts (optional, read-only). If you enable the import, the app reads your outdoor workouts and their routes to paint them on your map. The app never writes to Apple Health. Imported workouts stay on your device and are not uploaded unless you explicitly turn on “Share imported walks with friends” (off by default) — then their route is synced like a walk you tracked here, so friends can see it. You can turn it off again at any time to remove them.
• Account data (optional). If you sign in with Apple, we store a random user ID and the username you choose. We do not receive your name, and your email is handled by Apple’s sign-in service.
• Friend relationships. Friend requests and friendships are stored on our server so the competition can work.

Where data is processed

• Apple iCloud / CloudKit — private backup of your walks (Apple Inc., under your Apple account).
• Supabase — database and sign-in for the optional social features (profiles, friendships, shared walk routes).
• Stadia Maps — your walk’s GPS trace is sent to a route-matching service to snap it onto the street map. The trace is processed to compute the result and is not used to identify you.
• OpenStreetMap / Overpass API — nearby railway geometry is queried to detect train rides. Only approximate area coordinates are sent, never your identity.

Your rights (GDPR)

You can access, correct, export or delete your data at any time. Deleting your account in the app (Friends → Delete account) removes your profile, friendships and uploaded walks from our server. Local data can be deleted by deleting your walks or the app. For any request, contact lukas@kingoftheblock.app.

What we don’t do

• No advertising, no ad tracking, no analytics SDKs.
• No selling or sharing of personal data.
• No reading of your contacts, photos or anything beyond what’s listed above.
